Chapter 10: Experimental Design and Analysis of Variance

Experimental Design

What level of fertilizer to use in order to maximize the yield? See the plan for an early experimental farm where controlled agricultural tests could be conducted.

Analysis of Variance

Fertilizer levels

The calculations for ANOVA are somewhat involved. I summarize them in this document (download and print).

Megastat calculates the required values and the ANOVA table in this problem.

Internet exercise (Pb. 10.36, p. 358).

In this problem we are asked to conduct a one-way ANOVA test on the mean fuel consumption values of three groups of vehicles: (1) Small, (2) mid-size, and (3) trucks.

(Complete set of  Fuel Consumption Ratings for all vehicles can be found here.)

When we compare the mean values for these three groups, we see that there is no significant difference. Here is the Megastat/Excel file which shows a p-value of almost 0.64.
